Since 1999, Mr. Swirl the Friendly Plumber has been travelling across the Lower Mainland, Fraser valley and Greater Vancouver Area to deliver the best plumbing service around. In our time we’ve operated out of Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam and now reside in Coquitlam BC.
With over 20 years experience in B.C and in the Lower Mainland, we’ve really learned and fell in love with the area. In this blog we’re going to take a drive through the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley to take a look at each city and what we’ve come to learn and love about their plumbing.

Lower Mainland Cities
Although we know the Lower Mainland BC is a vast area with lots of variety in cities, when most people think of it, Vancouver is still the city that comes to mind first. A metropolis complete with views of the ocean and mountains all in one. Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and it’s been an honour to serve quality plumbing to help maintain it’s functionality.
From the stunning homes of North Vancouver to modern high rises touching the clouds downtown, plumbing in Vancouver is no easy task. Complex systems which deliver hot water to thousands of tenants per building are tricky but not as tricky as finding a parking spot for the work truck.
Overall, there is something special about plumbing in Vancouver. You forget about business and competition and see the city as one community, and fixing that one leaky faucet is just one small step in keeping everyone moving forwards
Shortly outside of Vancouver we find ourselves in Burnaby BC. Mountains cascade over the hills of Burnaby and the views of the downtown Vancouver are outstanding.
Over the years, Burnaby has been a hotspot for plumbing, and in particular rotting Poly B piping. Poly B is a type of water pipe which was used 20-40 years ago in the construction of homes. Poly B is infamous for cracking, breaking, bursting and ultimately giving homeowners huge headaches. Unfortunately, many homes in Burnaby were built during this period and face leaks and issues with their Poly B.
After making it though Burnaby, we find ourselves in the wonderful community of Coquitlam. Coquitlam is where Mr. Swirl currently operates from and specializes in so we’ve dealt with just about any job imaginable.
Close to Coquitlam depending on which way you travel, is New Westminster. New West is really a beautiful, underrated city. The sunsets are phenomenal and views over the Fraser River are great.
With the huge hills in New West, you’d think it has a pretty good natural plumbing system, what could you possibly need to do in New West! Well, in the recent years New West exploded in development and we’ve helped install tankless water heaters, furnaces and fixtures to New Wests homes. Contrary, New Westminster still has plenty of older homes and Mr. Swirl has helped property homeowners renovate and upgrade their plumbing systems.
Over our 20 years in business, we’ve also watched Surrey grow so much, and over those years we’ve responded to a number of emergency calls. Mr. Swirl is a 24 hour emergency plumber and will respond to all emergency calls. Due to the sheer amount of people in Surrey, we’ve been out to stop a leak, restore hot water in the winter and solve drainage issues all the time. So if you’re in Surrey and face a plumbing emergency don’t hesitate to call Mr. Swirl.
Very close to our home in Coquitlam, is Port Coquitlam. Port Coquitlam is a bit smaller but just as great of a community as Coquitlam! There are fantastic restaurants and places to visit all over Poco. In fact, we’ve helped some of those restaurants when they face a plumbing problem!
We’ve also helped many property owners in Port Coquitlam renovate and upgrade their homes! Full bathroom renovations are one of out favourite jobs to do, and we’ve had the pleasure of doing a few in Poco!
Port Moody is a stunning place! Going for ice cream at Rocky Point Park is enjoyed by residents of any age and a visit to local eateries and parks make a great trip for people all across the Lower Mainland.
Mr. Swirl has been a frequent visitor to Port Moody over the years. Always closely located in Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam, the short drive to unclog a drain has been made many times. Happy Mr. Swirl customers can be found all across Port Moody!
What a great little town Pitt Meadows is! A well connected community full of retired seniors and young families makes for a very friendly atmosphere. The only thing that can ruin the mood, is the amount of rainfall Pitt Meadows sees every year!
Everyone knows that rain puts your drainage to the test! The whole Lower Mainland is used to rain but due to the proximity of the Fraser river to Pitt Meadows, it’s in a particularly dangerous place. Pitt Meadows and especially South Pitt Meadows residents need to ensure that their drainage systems and sump pumps are operating properly in case of an emergency flood.
As Mr. Swirl was once located in Maple Ridge, there is a soft spot in our hearts for the city. A diverse city in it’s people and landscapes has always been great for Mr. Swirl, and it’s been an honour to provide great plumbing service in Maple Ridge BC over the years.
Throughout time in Maple Ridge, Mr. Swirl has worked on hundreds of hot water tanks. Whether its an installation, replacement or hot water tank repair in Maple Ridge, we’ve done it, and probably done it a hundred times over! If you’ve got hot water tank concerns in Maple Ridge, Mr. Swirl’s got your back!
Langley has exploded recently. The development is unmatched and beautiful homes are being added every day!
Whether old or new, Mr. Swirl has been to Langley a number of times to work on water lines and water mains. If it’s because it’s leaking, or out of date, we’ve got you covered, Mr. Swirl has become water line experts in Langley.
Mr. Swirl now even offers trenchless water line replacements! That’s right, water line replacements without having that big ugly trench dug through your yard, damaging your property. It’s a great addition, and we’ve already started delivering wonderful trenchless water line repairs to Langley!
Being an older community, we also see a lot of Poly b piping in Mission. As we stated earlier, Poly B is a huge risk to have in your home and we highly recommend having it replaced by Mr. Swirl if you have it in your home.
Also, in the winter it can get quite cold in Mission. If you’re a resident of the city you should make sure all your piping is insulated properly and outdoor faucets are off during the cold months.
