Spring Cleaning - Mr. Swirl’s Guide To Cleanings, Renovations And Upgrades | Mr Swirl

It’s that time of the year again. Spring cleaning time, and this is the year to do it big! After spending the past year in our homes, it’s become clear that our homes are our sanctuary. The place we spend every day and rest our heads at night is very important and it’s especially important to keep them clean and updated. In the past year, we’ve learned what we like, what we love and what we maybe don’t need anymore. We’ve also discovered all the leaking faucets, old pipes, outdated fixtures and overdue renovations that we didn’t have time to notice before. It’s ok, with the help of Mr. Swirl, we’ll let you know just what to do.

Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring Cleaning – Wash your Dishwasher

Often, we think of the dishwasher as a very clean and sanitary thing. We put dirty dishes in, and beautiful sparkly ones come out. But do we ever really think to wash our dishwasher? Food and grit can build up in places you wouldn’t expect causing potential damage and hindrance to the performance of your dishwasher. It could even lead to a leak! The dishwasher is no different from your shower, sink or toilet, they need proper washing. Take the racks out and properly scrub the inside of your dishwasher this Spring.

Spring Cleaning – Clean your Shower-head

Much like the dishwasher, not many of us would think to clean a shower-head. However, if you’re experiencing low water pressure, your problem could be as simple as a clogged shower head. Soak your shower-head in vinegar and water for one hour then wipe it down. You should see an increase in your water pressure. If you are still facing issues with your water pressure, give us a ring at 6044354664.

Spring Cleaning – Freshen up your Sink

If you have a garburator in your kitchen you might notice a bad smell can develop over time and after use. If you find your sink and garburator starting to smell, put a lemon rind or lime rind down it, run hot water at low pressure and turn on the garburator. You will notice an immediate difference in the smell of your sink and sometimes your whole kitchen!

Spring Cleaning – Upgrade your Shower Curtain

Shower curtains are just one of those things that never seem to stay clean. No matter what you try, they always seem to develop that brown stain on the lower half. It’s not a problem. New shower curtains are inexpensive and come in all sorts of cool designs. If you’re doing a bathroom renovation or simple upgrades to your bathroom, don’t forget about the shower curtain, it will make all the difference.

Spring Cleaning – Clean your shower with Vodka

That’s right! If you notice mildew or dirt collection in the edges of your shower there’s a popular drink that may be just what you need and It’s vodka. No, not for drinking. If you mix it 1:1 with water and use it to scrub mildew it will help remove it, as well as prevent it from coming back.

Spring Cleaning – Scrub your Grout

Most new houses and renovated kitchens and bathrooms have some sort of grout in the backsplash or tiling. Although it’s hard to see, grout collects grease and dirt from cooking and showering. It’s important to clean this once a year to get rid of these dirty substances. A combination of warm water and bleach is the perfect cure, use eye and hand protection, a cleaning brush or old toothbrush and get to scrubbing.

Spring Upgrades and Renovations

When it comes to upgrades and renovations, that’s what we’re here for. If you live in the Lower Mainland or Greater Vancouver Area and are looking to do a bathroom or kitchen renovation, Mr. Swirl has you covered. Visit our renovations page for further details, but here are some of our favourite renovations to perform:

Spring Upgrades and Renovations – Faucet Installations

How many times have you been at a friend’s house or a restaurant and been impressed by a cool sink? Maybe the bowl sits on top of the counter or the water runs out like a waterfall. What’s stopping you from being that person? Often faucets aren’t even that expensive, and if you’re looking to do a bathroom or kitchen renovation Mr. Swirl can install any faucet you’d like. It’s one of the most exciting parts of a renovation and we want to be there to help you make sure it’s great.

Spring Upgrades and Renovations – Repiping

Although it’s not quite as exciting as a new sink, we still love to do repiping. Being in any part of a renovation is fun and even if it’s behind the scenes, it makes a difference when it is done correctly. With our guarantees we make sure piping is done correctly, no leaks, no need to have a plumber back soon.

Spring Upgrades and Renovations – Toilet Installation

The toilet might just be the most important piece of a bathroom renovation. It is the most used and worst feature to have problems with later on. When installing a toilet we make sure it looks beautiful but also that it is done correctly. After all nobody wants to deal with toilet problems after a big renovation.

Spring Upgrades and Renovations – Garbage Disposal Units

A new garbage disposal unit is a huge upgrade and a popular addition in renovations, however, there is a wide variety of garbage disposal units out there. If it’s a single unit, you probably only need a 1 horsepower unit, but if it’s a large commercial building you could need something as big as a 10 horsepower unit. Whatever use you need, Mr. Swirl can assess your needs and make sure you get the right garbage disposal unit.

Spring Upgrades and Renovations – Grease Traps

For commercial renovations, a grease trap is one of the most common things needed. That is because certain businesses are required to have them for environmental reasons. Without a grease trap, hazardous sewage can seep into the soil and contaminate the earth or water supply. We take grease traps very seriously and with our knowledge and experience in the area we get it right, every time!

No matter what your renovation is, we have you covered! One of the several reasons our plumbers love their job is because of the variety in work it provides. Every renovation is different, people have specific needs, and every building is unique. At Mr. Swirl, the Friendly Plumber that’s what we love, if you have a complex renovation or a run-of-the-mill upgrade we’re here for you either way. Book us online now or give our 24/7 phone line a ring if you have a renovation or cleaning job and see how we can make your day better! Following spring, here is also a guide for summer plumbing tips!
